Emone “EQ” Quadeem | Recording Artist
EQ was born into the heart of the hood with a first name that means faith and a last name that means strength. Stripped of innocence at an early age, Emone was surrounded by drugs, violence, gangs and poverty from the day he was born. His young senses became numb to his surroundings as EQ grew up thinking it was normal to live among drug dealers, murderers, hustlers and thugs. His role models wore gold chains and mink coats — the symbols of power and success. These very symbols became metaphors for EQ. They shaped his perspective at a young age, infusing his lyrical commentary for years to come.
Like many aspiring kids, EQ turned to rap as an outlet to explore his creativity. He took advantage of whatever session time he could get by recording with friends, beatmakers and producers in studios, basements and bedrooms across the city of Chicago. He developed his trademark cadence, inflection and tone. Soon, Emone was collaborating with the likes of Jneal, Mush Millions, Cicero and C-Sick.
In 2015, EQ went full time. He surrounded himself with a dedicated brotherhood and sisterhood of talented collaborators. Taking up residence at ABG studio where he studied and wrote, EQ was determined to deliver an honest and passionate account of urban hood life capable of transcending the hood. “I’m showing you all the dirt, the grime, the gutter,” he says. “But something beautiful is rising from it.” EQ squeezes beauty and humor out of hellish and deplorable surroundings. His observational satire is often balanced against a sense of humility and self-awareness that seduces the listener through clever wordplay and infectious hooks laid down over enticing and original West Side beats.
Kid Wond3r | Producer
Kid Wond3r is a self-taught classical pianist, keyboard player, beat-maker and producer. As his name suggests, his story is nothing short of miraculous. Raised on the streets of Chicago’s crime-infested West Side, Kid Wond3r was born into a world of homelessness and his family struggled for survival while sleeping in shelters.
Kid Wond3r discovered his musical talent when he stumbled upon an electric keyboard at a relative’s home. It was a “self-teaching” keyboard and Kid Wond3r followed the instructions as they lit up on the screen. Innate, raw talent took over and within a few short years he was playing organ at church where seasoned gospel musicians provided him with his only musical training.
Technology and art collided on Kid Wond3r’s laptop as he became known and sought after for his prolific beat making abilities. Kid Wond3r proves that the ability to pound out a Beethoven symphony by ear is a definite asset when it comes to composing contemporary urban rap. In 2014 Kid Wond3r perfected his production skills while enrolled in the sound engineering program at SAE Institute and during his production residence with 808 mafia in Atlanta.
Kid Wond3r draws on his eclectic influences including classical, electronic, R&B, rap, blues, hip hop and gospel, demonstrating a style and virtuosity that has allowed him to work with many of Chicago’s preeminent rappers including EQ, Z-Money Lud Foe, Dreezy, Li’l Durk and 808 Mafia.
ABG is proud to have forged a relationship with a talent as natural and pure as Kid Wond3r’s. He is a genre-spanning musical genius and a multi-talented composer with the stuff that legends are made of. Let us be the first to give credence to this up and coming talent.
